AUSTRALIAN WORK AND HOLIDAY

The Australian Work and Holiday Visa is an excellent option for individuals who wish to work, travel, and/or study in Australia.

This visa is available only to citizens of certain countries; you can check your country’s eligibility on the Australian Department of Home Affairs website.

One of the main features of an Australian Work and Holiday visa is that it allows full-time employment, making it particularly appealing to young adults. However, it is important to note that with this visa, you are not permitted to work for the same employer for more than 6 months. (Exceptions are available but changing with Australia’s labour needs, please check Australian Department of Home Affairs website for current information.) This restriction is designed to provide visa holders with the opportunity to gain diverse international work experience from different employers.

Additionally, this visa allows holders to study in Australia for up to 4 months. For instance, if you want to improve your English skills or take a short vocational course, you can do so without having to apply for a Student Visa.

The Australian Work and Holiday Visa permits you to stay in the country for a maximum of 12 months. If you wish to stay longer, you may apply for an extension without having to leave Australia, provided you have worked for at least three months in a regional area in fields such as tourism, hospitality, agriculture, forestry, fishing, or bushfire recovery work in affected areas. If you meet these conditions, you may extend the visa for another 12 months. In total, you can apply for this visa three times if all requirements are met. For the second extension, you must have worked for at least 6 months during your second year.

Requirements:

  • You must be between 18 and 31 years of age.
