I first arrived in Sydney in September of 2010, initially to learn the language, like so many others. I wasn’t thinking about staying here at all. But Australia is a wonderful place, and if you travel here, you need to allow for the fact, that it might steal your heart. And that has happened to me as well.
I have met somebody, whose roots are here and who does not want to move to Europe, which is totally understandable, since every chance is given for a liveable and happy life in Australia. But that is only true for the holders of a permanent residency and of course the Australian citizens. So I contacted Edith and Csaba once again and asked them to help find the way for me to be able to stay here, in Australia. They turned to me with their usual professionalism and thanks to Edith’s thorough and persistent work, she called me a month after the submission of our visa application and said: “Réka, are you prepared for everything?” I answered with a lump in my throat: “Yes, I believe so.” Then Edith: “All right then, because you became the happy owner of a PR visa today, which means, that according to Australian immigration law you are going to become an Australian citizen.” It was one of the happiest moments of my life.
After the first few weeks spent in Sydney – although I did not admit to myself – I knew this is the place where I want to live and after I found the person I share my life with here, I finally felt like I arrived home. And it is thanks to Csaba and Edith, that I am able to stay here.
