Weather and Geography

With such a huge state, of course, we cannot speak about one type of climate. Western part of the region, the weather is hot and dry, as this area is located in the Australian desert in a significant proportion. Contrary to this there is the northern part with tropical weather prone to have storms and floods also. However, the most densely populated areas in the south-west section have pleasant weather with Mediterranean characteristics. Geographically, Western Australia is of the utmost importance in several aspects of the Australian federation. This is the largest and economically most important area in the country. Here you will find the world's one of, if not the richest mineral deposits. Recently, mining industry has grown into the most important sector in Western Australia; including iron, gold, copper, nickel, bauxite, zinc, diamond, and many of the world's rare mineral salts (e.g. .: potassium, molybdenum, calcium) are mined in the field.

Transport

Due to its size air transport is the most important form of the transportation in Western Australia. Numbers might be better to demonstrate its size that seems to be incredible especially from European point of view. There are more than 30 airports in the state, and only in Western Australia there are seven local airlines to ensure quick and safe travel to local people. In addition, of course, highways and railways run through all areas of the state, from big cities down to the minor settlements. Western Australia Motorways characteristics include the so-called road trains, which is actually nothing more than several assemblies consisting of a huge cargo carrying super trucks.

Sports

Contrary to the industry, the sport is not really important in this territory. The Australian traditional games naturally can be found such as rugby, cricket or as local choices football and basketball as well. However, there are some local specialties in which Western Australia is the leader- such as field hockey and baseball as well.

History

Although it can be said about all areas of Australia that the Australian Aborigines populated them the first, it is even truer about Western Australia. According to archaeologists it is almost certain that the aboriginals arrived to the mainland first through the coast of Western Australia, and then migrated further. Today, approximately 70,000 indigenous people live in this area (it is 15 % of the total aboriginal population). This area was not populated as a penal colony, which is very unique in Australia. The first British colonies were established to discourage any of a possible French invasion in the west coast. However, despite Western Australia is blessed with abundant natural beauty, it was obviously a little to develop the area and to gain independence. However, at the end of the nineteenth century gold rush reached Western Australia also that swept across the continent like wildfire. And although hoping quick enrichment, the streaming gold miners did not find as much gold as in Victoria; it was soon revealed that this area has one of the world's richest deposits of minerals. This discovery helped Western Australia to become the most industrialized area of the country.
