Perth

„Many people, who visit Perth and get to know its wonderful weather, fabulous beaches and the carefree attitude of its residents towards everyday life, wonder: how come so few people live here? And even though Perth is one of the most secluded capitals in the world, there are barely any citizens, who have a reason to complain. Not so long ago Perth was denounced as a boring place, but as the economy developed the city flourished like a western Australian wildflower.

Today Perth is a refined and cosmopolitan city with myriads of bars, restaurants and cultural events. But the best part is, if you want to relax, the huge parks and beaches of this city offer a perfect location. After all this is the city that has its own dog-friendly beach…” – Lonely Planet

Weather and geography

Perth has a mediterranean weather, which means that summers are hot and winters are mild and rainy. In the summer the average temperature rises above 30°C, but the cool breeze coming from the sea makes it feel less. The locals call this wind Fremantle Doctor.
The geography of Perth is almost entirely defined by the Swan river (which got its name from the native black swans), because the city is built around it. The city can be devided to three parts: government, commercial and cultural-entertainment district.

Transport

Perth's transport also has three areas: air, water and inland transport.
As we have mentioned about Western Australia, too, air traffic has a huge role in the transport of this state.
There are two airports in the city: Perth Airport and Jandakot Airport. The former transacts international and commercial flights, while the latter receives mostly local and charter flights.
The urban public transport network, the Transwa, makes the traffic in Perth smooth with buses, commuter railways, ferries and trams.

Culture and leisure

Perth is the cultural centre of Western Australia and the western part of the whole continent.
Perth Cultural Centre is a building complex located in the centre of the city, and it is home to a number of museums, galeries and libraries, like the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the State Library of Western Australia. And it has a maritime gallery as well, which also deserves to be mentioned.
