Darwin

Darwin is the largest and most populous city in the Northern Territory. But neither in Australian, nor in European standards could it be called great. Its importance lies in the fact that significant population is concentrated in this area. Yet Darwin is a popular destination for tourists, who are attracted by the Australian wilderness.

Weather and Geography

Darwin has tropical-savannah climate, which means that the two dominant seasons alternating each other: the dry season from April to October, when the days are bright and hot, and the rainy season from December to March, when it becomes increasingly common for flood- like tropical storms and cyclones.
Darwin is located on the side of the Timor Sea, the area is basically flat. The city's port, which is located at the Cullen Bay, makes this the gate of Asia.

Transportation

City of Darwin - although almost everyone has a car - operates a bus network, which connects the inner and outer areas of the city.
The railway station is important in Darwin, as it is one of the stations of the above-mentioned Ghan, the train, which connects the city to Adelaide that is located in the southern continent.
Darwin International Airport manages a relatively significant traffic, not only at the local level. It is interesting to know that besides fulfilling civil duties, the Australian Air Force also uses it as a base.

Sports

Besides the usual Australian sports (rugby, cricket) there are some interesting local ones that should be emphasized as characteristics of Darwin and the region.
For example, in every two years they held Arafura Games, which originally started as an athletics championship but today athletes from around the whole country compete in more than twenty different sports, such as: boxing, golf, squash, shooting, basketball, etc.

Culture and recreation

Darwin is one of the Australian cities that have many festivals.
Only to list the most important ones, Darwin Festival is held annually, which gives home to great music, theatre and cinema events, NT Indigenous Music Awards will be held as well this time.
Small immigrant groups - Greeks, Chinese, and Indians - held some of their homelands festival every year also, for example there are huge fireworks at the Chinese New Year Ewe on the beach.
