Alice Springs

Although Alice Springs is not a state capital and cannot be said neither large nor populous but still worth to be mentioned because of its location.

First of all, no matter how small Alice Springs is still the second largest town in the Northern Territory.
The city is actually still significant for the same reason which led to the establishment in 1872 of it: Alice Springs is situated in the centre of the continent. The founders' intention initially was to install a telegraph station in the middle of the desert, which connects the East with the West.
The station became bigger and bigger and grown to a city that is surrounded by the several hundred kilometres Australian desert.
