Allawah is a nice little suburb 16 kilometres far from the CBD of Sydney, easily reachable by railway. The name Allawah comes from the Aboriginal phrase ’Stay here!’. Its main shoppig area is next to the railway station where you can find all kinds of shops ranging from the corner grocery, newsagent’s, post office, butcher’s, bakery to restaurants. It is a multicultural suburb with a wide range of nationalities.
Allawah is mainly a residential area but Hurstville is 15-20 minutes on foot, which is the business and commercial centre of southern Sydney. The spectacular Georges river flows nearby, which proceeds to Botany Bay and then into the Tasmanian Sea.
